Seditionaire goes digital... First Person, that is!

NOTE: This the latest cut, and OFFICIAL TRAILER for Women on Top!

Directed by Lita Tresierra
Shot & Edited by Kenneth Leonard
Styling by Dang Trinh
Hair and Make-up by Rhiana Hogan

Well folks, after an arduous and valiant wait here is a taste of our next project, Women on Top. As you all well know, it has long been our mandate to incorporate other arts and disciplines such as fashion and technological arts into the theatre. After many collaborations with the likes of Montreal's Fashion Week and Fringe Festival, our latest projects bring us to collaborators with which we'd only ever dreamed. Women on Top is a project that celebrates women at every level, but in true seditionaire style, we've brought on lady collaborators from around the globe to help spice things up. Working with a local cast and crew, we have expanded our horizons by setting our sights on New York's Fashion Week, and beginning a collaboration with NYC based Irish fashion designer Daryl K and burgeoning Latin-American shoe label Dieppa Restrepo.

This year will prove to be a busy one for Seditionaire, as we embark on this project, we already have our next in line, an original production entitled Love Letters Lost. This project will bring on board true heroes as fellow collaborators, the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo. A live interactive show dealing with Argentina's Disappeared and the effects of the Dirty War, it will also help pave the way for our first feature project.

Speaking of firsts, we are happy to announce that we've applied to the First Person Digital grant sponsored by Studio XX and the NFB. A grant geared at exploring technological innovations in the staging of live theatre and film, it also aims to create more content for women and showcase some of the amazing talent the ladies of our city have to offer. Both our projects are up for this one, so cross your fingers for us, seditionairies! Once again, a huge thank you to all who helped on the shoot of this film, a very special thank you to Rhiana Hogan for the beautiful hair and make-up, and to Daryl K and Dieppa Restrepo for the fabulous clothes. Dieppa Restrepo - F/W2010

DIEPPA RESTREPO Fall 2010 from Andrea Vargas Dieppa on Vimeo.

This short video directed by Rodrigo Madrazo provides a more artistic approach to the look-book. Following in the footsteps of Karl Lagerfeld and even Tom Ford, more and more designers are now leaning towards new mediums of expression to display their collections. Some more abstract, some more conventional it seems some designers have tired of shining a spotlight on an otherwise empty stage and have opted for telling stories in which their collections star as one of the protagonists. The power of seeing a collection in context seems to be proving a strong accompaniment to the traditional runway show, not to mention much more accessible... might we be moving in a direction that runway shows as we know them might become a thing of the past?

Watch this space for news on Seditionaire's upcoming project, WOMEN ON TOP, a multimedia collaboration with designers Dieppa Restrepo and Daryl K to be premiering at New York Fashion Week.

With a nod to the classics... it makes sense to stay grounded

Recently Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley was quoted as saying “Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes.” It seems that for many of us the necessity of squeezing into a torturous heel has lost it's appeal and definitely it's practicality. For the thousands of women stepping out of the office, creating their own businesses, juggling meetings, lattes and parent nights, while still trying to maintain some sense of style, heels are often the last resort. Before finally caving and pairing your skinny jeans with Keds, how many of us cling to those stilettos as our final style statement? "We will not go quietly into the night!"

Well, ladies, problem solved... Let's reminisce now into how many meetings we've been to and jealously stared at our male counter-part's stylish Oxfords while we hobbled over to get a Coffee refill in our one size two small Prada pumps. Who said we can't wear the Oxfords? Probably the same people that said we couldn't wear the pants. This season Seditionaire begins a collaboration with New York based label Dieppa Restrepo, a line specializing in traditional men's style shoes for women. Already having taken their home city by a storm the ladies behind the label hold fast to the motto of when you have your life to lead, "who has the energy for heels?"

We couldn't agree more! Finally available in Canada at a few select boutiques, make sure you leave some room in your closet for a few pairs of these... and trust me, you're going to want to make that room in the first row!

NEIGHBOURS - 2nd Edition- The story behind the house...

2014/2016 St. Laurent...

The Hardy family moved into this apartment hoping to make it their first home. Working to renovate the place to live in the upstairs apartment and rent out the other place, little did they know that the very house where they hoped their lives would begin, would actually be the place to where they would end.

They say the haunting began the moment Mrs. Hardy became pregnant. Creaking floors and strange noises gave way to slamming doors, whispering voices and eventually full-blown apparitions. Where Mr. Hardy was sceptical about the activity in his home, a pregnant Mrs. Hardy was terrified by a dark presence she felt channelled both the male and female, a presence she felt had the power both to seduce her and to rape her… she feared this dark force was lusting after her child.
When little Gillian was finally born, the hauntings seemed to stop… but their peace would not last. When their daughter turned six the trouble returned. The family reported to have been held captive in their own home; Mrs. Hardy had felt a presence she could not see that had tried to drown her in the tub; Gillian was said to suffer from terrible nightmares and sleep-walking fits. The Hardy family feared the worst. It is said that they did invite a priest into the home to perform a blessing and even a rumoured exorcism, but the strain of the experience must have taken its toll. Days later the entire family was found hung in their own home. We believe that in a moment of desperation, Mr. Hardy, who had been displaying erratic and at times violent behaviour, went after his wife and child and after doing the unthinkable, took his own life. What actually happened on that fateful Hallows Eve, we’ll never know.

NEIGHBOURS - 2nd Edition

At some point in time, 3 neighbours were found in a crime scene of inexplicable madness. The events are still under investigation in the spirit world, none of them able to rest until those events are resolved. The neighbours have been distorted and tweaked by the entities that possess them, stuck in their own realm. They are screaming for help and maybe your presence can help them be released.

who knows? Anything is possible on halloween...

This 31st of October Seditionaire invites you to join us in a paranormal experiment that is sure to shock the senses. In a world where madness and loneliness are heightened only by desperation, we open the door to the world beyond and attempt to make contact. Given the chance to tell their stories, will the souls condemned to linger here come forth? There is only one way to find out... and anyway, isn't it about time you got to know your Neighbours?

SEDITIONAIRE TO LAUNCH DARYL K CANADA THIS FALL!!

That's right folks. After spending time in the south and concentrating solely on the performing arts for a season, SEDITIONAIRE is back to what we do best, promoting and collaborating with artists from all fields...this time, brace yourselves people, it's FASHION!

We are thrilled to announce that we are collaborating with New York based Irish designer Daryl Kerrigan and launching the labels Daryl K and Kerrigan nationwide this F/W09. A staple in the New York fashion scene for over a decade, Daryl is not simply known for the tough, sexy, rock-chic aesthetic that has graced the catwalks this year, she coined the look with her first collections in the early 90's. When even Helmut Lang was revelling in excess, Daryl K's collections embodied the androgynous sexiness that it would take many designers years to evolve.

But Daryl K's road has not always been an easy one. At the height of her fame, the designer was made an offer too good to be true by none other than the Gucci Group. But, as is sadly the case with many young talents, due to mismanagement and artistic differences Gucci dropped the line, and many thought that would be the end for Daryl K. Think again. Like a phoenix out of the ashes, Daryl built the label back up again, what's more, a few years ago launched a come-back collection, K-189, to glowing reviews in collaboration with none other than Barney's!

After her solid return to the New York fashion scene Daryl K continues her collaboration w/ Barney's, K-189 having become one of their most popular in-house collections. With Daryl K collection dressing the world's rock royalty and K-189 selling out at Barney's, most designers would be satisfied. But for Daryl, there needed to be something more; this marked the birth of Kerrigan. With the momentum from the success of a more affordable line, and a wink to their ready-to wear collection, the company launched this diffusion line not as an offshoot of Daryl K Collection, Kerrigan is the icing on the cake! Still oozing that effortless sexiness that Daryl K does so well, Kerrigan offers many of the same styles with a younger twist and a lower price tag.

It seems only natural that after all this success that Daryl K would turn her eye to Canada. Currently available exclusively at Holt Renfrew, when it came to her Canadian fans, and who the Daryl K woman is, we knew that there needed to be a bigger and wider representation of the collection at both the local and national level. To the rock goddess there exists in each of us, let's raise our glass to Daryl K!
